The Mojang Lego Minecraft project started up last year, and aimed to put forward great, original box-set ideas created by Minecraft players. With support from fans, Cuusoo hopes to secure a licensing agreement with Lego for the project, and then give the 1% royalty gained to charity.
The project now has over 10,000 supporters, which is exactly what it needed for a Lego jury to review the idea, and as of this week, the project is now on to the concept stage. In a blog post, the site announced the news:
“We’re happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO CUUSOO has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft. We can’t wait to show it to you—but it isn’t ready just yet. These things take time, so we appreciate your patience. More details are to come.”
Obviously, everyone at GeekTech is a huge fan of Lego, and it’s no secret we have a soft spot for Minecraft too–no wonder it gained a spot in PCWorld’s Top 10 Games of 2011–so we can’t wait to see the final designs for such a great project and good cause.
Cuusoo is a website aimed at giving Lego fans a voice in what sets the company should consider creating next. If you have an idea you want to submit to Cuusoo for project consideration, be sure to check out the rules before submitting your idea.
