Revolights aims to make cycling safer by adding a set of bicycle lights on the rim of each wheel. The design is also fairly straightforward–two thin LED rings (one red, one white) attached just below the brake appliers of each wheel. To keep the lights charging, there’s a small hub attached to the bike, connected with a slim wire, holding a rechargeable polymer lithium-ion battery. While the legal colors for lights on a road are red and white, the lights also come in slightly different shades.
Although Revolights could make your ride safe (and make your bike resemble a Tron lightcycle), they are not available to buy just yet–the team developing the product hopes to raise the money to produce more on Kickstarter. The funds will also help the group develop the lights further. Once complete, Revolights will set you back around $220.
So, if you have money to spend on your bike, Revolights may be worth considering–they’ll certainly make you stand out, if that’s your thing. Of course, it would still be cheaper to just get a tail light and fluorscent accessories for night time journeys.
Check out Revolights‘ website for more images and updates on the project.
