High-level Apple and carrier executives are said to be toting the new iPhone model already, as the device reached what is known as AP stage–limited final testing before mass production. WWDC used to be the launch stage for new iPhone models, but now the next iPhone is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s event in September.
Rumors are split over the naming of the next iPhone. Some say it will be a major redesign, and it will be called the iPhone 5, while more recent speculation points to the name of iPhone 4S, an evolution from the current model. There was no leaked prototype this year, so tipsters are banking on an A5 dual-core chip inside the new iPhone, along with an improved camera, possibly 8-megapixels.
