To give your deathless prose a thorough vetting, run it through
Grammar Expert Plus. The program checks grammar and spelling,
flagging commonly confused words, passive voice, jargon, and
overused terms as it works. After you’ve run the check, you get a
Statistics box that provides the number of words and sentences, and
ranks the document on a scale from Simple to Difficult for words
per sentence, letters per word, syllables per word, and
readability.
The comprehensive Help menu provides advice on sentence structure, parts of speech, punctuation, mechanics of writing, writing style, problem words, and more. Also included are a basic word processor and a thesarus.
Two caveats: You’ll need to save Word documents in .rtf or .txt format before opening them in Grammar Expert Plus, and the program can save files in those formats only.
