If you’re in the market for a new Mac, the new Apple Store app lets you customize your new computer components such as increasing RAM or hard drive storage, upgrading the processor and adding preinstalled software such as iWork or Aperture.
Apple offers similar functionality on its Website, but had previously restricted shoppers on the iPhone app to purchasing standard model Macs with no upgrades.
The new app also adds a few customer service extras to help you when you visit an Apple Store. The app has an improved alert system that provides you with vital information about the Apple Store when you walk in the door such as when the next available Genius time slot is or how long until the next in-store workshop starts. Similar to a feature introduced with the new iPad displays inside the Apple Stores, the iPhone app lets you queue up to speak with a customer service representative instead of having to flag someone down.
As in the previous version of the app, you can also book One To One appointments, check out workshop and event schedules, reserve products for pick-up, and shop online for Macs, iPhones, iPads, iPods and their respective accessories.
Despite the heavy use of iPads in store, Apple chose not to release a universal app for its iOS Apple Store app. The Apple Store app is iPhone-only, meaning you have to resort to pixel-doubling to view it on the iPad. Alternatively, you could also visit Apple.com through the iPad’s Safari browser.
