Not as mired in controversy as you’ve heard, Bulletstorm (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) arrives today on the heels of a highly publicized Fox News hit piece. The cable network took umbrage with the rowdy first-person shooter’s “profanity” and “violence,” then trotted out a psychiatrist who claimed–foolishly as well as spuriously–that “the increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games.” Her evidence? Nonexistent, aka “par for the course” when it comes to Fox’s sloppy video games coverage. ETA: February 22
Less contentious, probably because it’s been around the block a couple times, Killzone 3 (PS3) also arrives today, picking up right where the eminently respectable Killzone 2 left off. I’m afraid I won’t be able to play it for another week because my review copy’s sitting in another state, but when I do, I’ll weigh in here, new PlayStation Move controls and all. ETA: February 22
In the meantime, I’ll be playing Radiant Historia (DS), a handheld roleplaying game from Atlus with a time-travel, parallel universe angle. I’m about to pop the box open as I type this, and I’ll have more to say about it soon. ETA: February 22
Last but not least, Digital Combat Simulator’s high fidelity A-10C Warthog (PC) flight simulation was released yesterday. “High fidelity” doesn’t do what DCS is up to justice, and if you want the most authentic consumer-grade flight simulation in the world, you’ll find nothing half as close outside a multimillion dollar military sim. ETA: February 21
