Motorola Mobility has signed an agreement to acquire Dreampark, a Swedish IPTV software provider, the company said on Wednesday.
The acquisition is expected to close before the second quarter of 2011. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Dreampark’s Dreamgallery IPTV middleware is designed to allow operators to build customizable user interfaces, and offer both regular TV, video-on-demand and interactive portals. The middleware incorporates, among other technologies, HTML and SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). It can also be used to integrate regular digital cable, satellite or terrestrial TV with interactive IPTV content such as video-on-demand.
Once the transaction has closed, Dreampark will be integrated into Motorola Mobility’s Converged Experiences business, according to a statement.
At the end of 2010, there were 46.2 million IPTV subscriptions worldwide, according to a report from Pyramid Research. That number is expected to grow to 131.6 million by the end of 2015, it wrote in a recent report. More than half of those subscriptions will be in Asia, according to the report.
