So, what did they find within? For one, iFixit uncovered that Microsoft’s Kinect has a lot of technology crammed into a really small space–with two cameras, an IR projector, four microphones, and a mainboard all tightly packed into the plastic enclosure of the $150 device. In fact, the Kinect is so tightly packed that the mainboard had to be split into three seperate sections.
The Kinect also houses a motor and gears within its base, which are used to rotate the device so it can keep track of players as they move around a room. However, iFixit found a problem with this–the gears are made from plastic, which, according to iFixit, don’t look too robust, so they may wear out more quickly than you’d like.
More details and pictures of the disconnected Kinect can be found over at iFixit.
