The Panda brand doesn’t have the recognition of a McAfee or Symantec–at least not in the United States–but Panda is looking to change that. Panda Security has been in the computer and network security business for twenty years, and already has a United States presence in Florida, but announced today a new office in Silicon Valley focused on the cloud.
According to a Panda Security press release, “The Panda Cloud Protection product line, which secures endpoints and servers, email and Web threat vectors, has grown well above the industry average growth rate for cloud-based security services. Income from these products grew 65 percent over the previous year and now represents 15 percent of the company’s total worldwide revenues. Panda expects this number to exceed 20 percent by the end of 2011.”
“Panda Security is well positioned in the United States to take a big piece of the SaaS [software as a service] market with its best-in-class cloud products, support, and channel partner program,” said Rick Carlson, president, Panda Security USA in the press release. “The Orlando headquarters will benefit greatly by having a team on the ground in Silicon Valley to elevate the Panda brand even further and build on the strong foundation we already have established with SMBs and their managed service providers.”
While there are established antimalware and network security solutions for large companies that have equally large budgets and IT departments with the manpower and expertise to manage them, small and medium businesses often rely on consumer-oriented security products. The problem is that, despite the difference in size the key word in “small and medium business” is still “business”. These organizations have different security needs, and must meet compliance mandates requiring more comprehensive and robust security than off-the-shelf consumer software.
I had a chance to speak with Panda Security CEO Juan Santana. Santana explained that Panda Security–and specifically the Panda Security Cloud Protection line–is uniquely suited to deliver effective security for SMBs at a cost that SMB budgets can handle.
Through its partners, Panda Security can deliver an effective, and affordable managed security offering. SMBs get the protection they need, along with the peace of mind that an expert is monitoring and maintaining security–freeing the organization to focus on growing its business. Organizations that prefer to keep an eye on things themselves can still benefit from the flexibility and capabilities of the Panda Cloud Protection platform.
