SlideRocket Jazzes up Its Presentation App in Mobile Devices
By Juan Carlos Perez
SlideRocket has upgraded the mobile viewer of its hosted presentations application for devices with HTML5-compliant browsers like iPhones and iPads.
Once SlideRocket detects that a user’s mobile device has an HTML5 browser, it makes it possible for the person to experience rich media components in the presentations, such as audio, video and advanced graphics. Until now, SlideRocket rendered presentation slides on mobile devices as static images.
Improving the quality and richness of presentations viewed on mobile devices is increasingly important, said Chuck Dietrich, SlideRocket’s CEO. More and more often, business executives on the road use their iPads and similar portable devices to show presentations to clients and partners on an ad hoc basis.
“Sales pitching happens anywhere — in a coffee house, a golf course, a restaurant,” he said. “We want to help our customers deliver a really good content pitch.”
“The world is going mobile and it’s time now for presentations to go mobile too,” Dietrich added.
In this first version of its HTML 5 mobile viewer, SlideRocket has focused on bringing most of the rich media capabilities that its hosted application offers on PC-based browsers.
In future upgrades, the company will bring to the mobile viewer more of the presentation sharing, collaboration and interactive capabilities that are available in the application for PC browsers, he said.
Neither SlideRocket users nor people who view its presentations have to do anything to enable this new functionality. It is being implemented transparently on SlideRocket’s back-end and will be triggered automatically when a mobile HTML5 mobile browser is detected.
SlideRocket is one of several companies that are trying to use the benefits of cloud-based software delivery to improve upon the capabilities of the grandfather of presentation applications, Microsoft’s PowerPoint.
