The N.Y. Times Android app may not improvement on the company’s mobile Website, but at least holds its own.
The app uses the paper’s traditional sections (business, world, opinion, and so on) to categorize content. After selecting an article, you can change its font size, or use various apps available on your phone to share the story. Unfortunately, the four font sizes available differ only slightly. In contrast, three font sizes that the mobile Website offers are dramatically different.
The N.Y. Times app isn’t as attractive as the mobile Website. The top of the mobile Website provides a search bar, a time/date stamp, a weather forecast, and recent changes in the Dow–features that the app lacks. The main advantage of the app is that it lets you share articles from your smartphone. Though some people may take to using the app to read the New York Times, I suspect that most will prefer the mobile Website.
