Mass Effect 3 Will Lay Waste to the Planet in One Year
By Matt Peckham
Mass Effect 3? By next year this time? Come on BioWare, I still haven’t finished Mass Effect 2.
Yep, it’s coming, as we’ve long known it would. The first teaser trailer debuted at Spike’s video game awards this weekend, revealing scenes that send hugs and kisses to Halo 2, another game about humans defending planet Earth against ravaging aliens. Cue scenes of industrial devastation and lacerated soldiers hunkered in ruined, debris-littered buildings.
“2 million dead in the first day, another 7 million by the end of the first week,” growls a lacerated soldier. “If Shepard doesn’t bring help soon, there won’t be an earth left to save.”
And that’s all we know for now. Will it have multiplayer? Who knows. BioWare’s always sold the Mass Effect trilogy as a single player show. A job listing this summer revealed the company hoped to take Mass Effect’s “existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe,” but no one’s yet sure if that means the main series or some unannounced tie-in game.
