LG Introduces the Optimus T: An Entry-Level Android Smartphone

So far, a trend at this year’s CTIA show in San Francisco is Android for everyone.Tuesday night, Motorola launched a slew of Android phones targeted at younger audiences and first-time smartphone owners. On Wednesday, LG unveiled the Optimus T for T-Mobile, a slick-looking phone running Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) with some useful tools for smartphone newbies.

Like most Android phones available today, the LG Optimus T runs a proprietary skin over the Android OS. You get seven homescreens to customize with widgets and shortcuts (which almost seems excessive), and an app called the LG App Organizer. The Optimus T also has a feature called Voice Actions, which lets you use voice commands to control their phone.

Other than these unique features, however, the Optimus T isn’t all that exciting when it comes to specs. It sports a 3.2-inch display, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and comes loaded with Swype for faster touch keyboard typing, as well as all of the usual Google programs like Maps, Talk, and Gmail.

Pricing and availability for the Optimus T has not yet been announced. We’ll hopefully get a hands-on look at the Optimus T out on the show floor, so stay tuned.
