Posterous is a popular blog-hosting service that emphasizes simplicity and ease of use, yet provides advanced features such as custom domains and integration with Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, Flickr, and many other social networks. This integration allows you to publish your blog post links as status updates to any of these networks. Posterous offers an official iPhone app, but not yet an Android app. Previously, Android users have had to make do with the option to send blog posts by e-mail. Now a new, third-party app called Sendy (free) provides another way to send photo and text posts to your Posterous blog, but unfortunately the app is still in beta and suffers from some bugs.
Sendy is very simple to use. First you must sign up via the Web for a Posterous blog and link the social networks into which you want to broadcast your blog post links. Then open Sendy and enter your Posterous login credentials. Now you can begin posting text and photos from your phone. You can choose whether to “auto-post” a link to your post throughout your social networks. You can also choose to make the post private. Here is an example of a blog post made with Sendy.
Unfortunately, Sendy can only attach photos, not video, documents, or sound files. That’s too bad, because you can easily attach such files when posting by e-mail. Sendy is actually less useful than the Gmail app in that regard. Also, Sendy frequently crashes while sending a post, especially with multiple image attachments. The Gmail app, on the other hand, can handle multiple attachments with ease.
The developer of Sendy says that the app is still in early development, with more features and bug fixes to come. For now, I recommend Sendy only for Posterous users who really want a dedicated Android app and are willing to help the developer with bug reports and feature requests.
