Apple is in talks to buy Handseeing Information Technology Co., Ltd., according to an executive with the Chinese game developer.
Tian Bo, deputy general manager with Handseeing confirmed on Friday that talks were taking place with Apple, but he declined to offer any details.
“We are talking with Apple. This is certain,” he said. “Any further news we have will be released to the media.”
Handseeing, founded in 2005, is based in Chengdu and Suzhou. The company has concentrated on working “rich internet” applications with a focus on online gaming.
By buying the company, Apple could strengthen its already growing presence in the Chinese market. Last month Apple opened a new retail store in Shanghai, making it the company’s second in China. At the same time, iPhones with Wi-Fi support are planned to officially go on sale in China later this month according to mobile carrier China Unicom.
Apple could not be reached for immediate comment on the acquisition talks.
