PS3 owners will have to pretend the original Mass Effect never happened, but if they’ve always wanted a crack at Mass Effect 2, BioWare says it’s coming to Sony’s console next January. The game, which debuted last January, had been exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Windows PCs.
BioWare confirmed plans to release Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 today at GDC Europe 2010, implying it’s long been working on a port, and added the PS3 version will include the full version of Mass Effect 2 alongside “hours of bonus content.”
Why no Mass Effect? It’s a question everyone’s invariably asking, and one we’ll analyze as soon as BioWare offers an answer.
Update: As you might expect, Microsoft’s responded to the jump (via IGN) by stating the original Mass Effect remains exclusive to Xbox 360, and claiming that “Xbox 360 [is] the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience.”
