Google Trike Goes Where Car Can’t

Street View on Google Maps allows drivers to see their directions step-by-step, or virtual sightseers to view the hustle and bustle of

Times Square from the comfort of their computer chair, but many of the world’s most interesting pla ces aren’t accessible through the online mapping application. Google is working to change that with the Google Trike, a pedal-powered vehicle capable of traveling and photographing where cars can’t.

Up until Oct. 28, interesting and unique spots in the U.S. can be nominated to be photographed and catalogued. At google.com/trike, users can nominate places in six categories including parks & trails, university campuses, pedestrian malls, theme parks and zoos, landmarks, and sports venues.

Google has already added a few U.S. landmarks including Legoland California, San Diego State University, Santa Monica Pier, and the Monterey Bay Bike Trail.

While the Trike is new to the U.S., it’s not the first the world has seen of it. Google promoted a similar campaign in the U.K., where it claims to have received 10,000 nominations and 35,000 votes. Stongehenge and Warwick Castle were the two most popular.
