Perot Systems is adding a new facility for business process outsourcing in Chennai in south India, citing strong business from the health-care segment.
BPO business from the health-care segment has been relatively unaffected by the economic downturn, Manish Jain, head of corporate communications at Perot India, said on Wednesday.
The company plans to add more than 1,000 IT and BPO employees in India during the year, Jain said. It currently has about 6,700 employees in India, with about 3,200 in BPO and 3,500 in IT services.
The new facility in Chennai will be in operation from next month. It has 353 seats and can have up to 1,000 people working three shifts. Starting with 100 employees, it is expected to ramp up to about 800 during the year, Jain said.
The facility is located in a special economic zone and by the rules governing these zones, it will have to work on new contracts from customers, Jain added.
The company already has three more facilities in Chennai delivering BPO services, and another in the neighboring city of Coimbatore. These BPO centers are mainly focused on the health-care market.
Perot’s campuses in Bangalore and Noida work in the areas of software applications development and technology infrastructure management services.
Perot plans to add staff at these centers as well during the year, as it has bagged new business including a contract from a bank.
