Tech Sells on Black Friday

The Nintendo Wii was the number one selling item this Black Friday, and tech sales in general blasted through grim economic expectations.

Since its debut two years ago, the Wii has consistently proved to be a best-seller, just recently surpassing the mark of 7 million consoles sold. This Black Friday was no exception. According to Pricegrabber.com and eBay, the Nintendo Wii was the most sought-after item: eBay moved 3,171 units at an average price of $349 and the Wii Fit game pushed 1,059 units at $140 a pop.

Apple was also a popular seller. Amazon.com names the iPod Touch as the number one selling item, and 10 out of the 25 most popular sellers were Apple products. The newest iteration of the MacBook was number four on Amazon — the laptop carries a starting pricetag of $1,299.

Aside from a pair of Uggs, tech products sold higher numbers on Pricegrabber.com than anything else. Holiday shoppers take note: digital cameras, LCD and plasma TVs, and cheap netbooks are popular this year. Here are the site’s top 10 products this year:

Overall, Black Friday sales were higher than last year, according to the National Retail Federation. Shoppers dropped $41 billion during the four-day weekend, with the average shopper spending $372.57, up 7.2 percent from last year.
