The more your smart phone can do, the smaller its screen and keyboard may seem. If squinting at a tiny screen has left your eye stinging, and typing on miniature keys has made your thumbs sore, a utility like MyMobiler can come in handy. This free application, which works with Windows Mobile-based phones, lets you view your mobile phone on–and interact with it from–your Windows PC.
MyMobiler can connect to your smart phone using its ActiveSync connection. That means your phone must be connected to your PC via USB. (MyMobiler says it can connect to your phone via Wi-Fi using its IP address, but I was unable to get this to work.) Once MyMobiler locates and connects to your phone, you’ll see its screen displayed on your PC monitor. You can operate the phone in your hand and watch the display on your PC update in real time.
In addition to letting you view the contents of your smart phone, MyMobiler also lets you control it. You can use your mouse to select and open applications on your phone through the MyMobiler windows, and can use your PC’s keyboard to type as necessary. I noticed a slight delay when using my computer mouse to open applications on the phone, but when I composed an e-mail in the MyMobiler window, the delay was negligible.
You can use MyMobiler to capture video from the phone, and to copy and paste information from the phone to your computer and vice versa. You also can use it to transfer files to the phone by dragging and dropping.
If you use your smart phone more like a laptop and less like a cell phone, you’ll appreciate MyMobiler.
