The Tokyo Game Show saw an 8 percent drop in attendance on Thursday, the first day of the four-day long show, organizers said Friday.
A total of 27,305 people visited the show, which is taking place just to the east of Tokyo at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. First-day attendance in 2007 was 29,783 people.
The vast majority of those in attendance on Thursday were members of the gaming industry. Business attendance stood at 24,203 people and the remainder was made up of 2,167 media attendees and 935 people who registered for the TGS Forum event that runs alongside the main show.
The attendance figures at the show represent individual attendees and re-entries into the show floor are not counted twice.
Beginning last year the Game Show was extended to four days long. It had previously been a three-day long event.
