This is the invitation for Samsung's March 1 event where we expect to see the Galaxy S6 and an Edge version of the device. The event be held ahead of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and the curve on the invitation hints at the debut of the Galaxy S6 Edge, which will have a curved screen that wraps around one or both sides of the device. The first model of the phone debuted in September 2014 at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin. One of the more talked about changes is the processor. Instead of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, the company is expected to go with an Exynos octa-core processor, which was developed in house following heating issues with Qualcomm's.
This launch comes at a tough time for the electronics giant. While the overall smartphone market grew, Samsung's unit sales dropped. Its seeing increased competition from Apple whose iPhone 6 pushed the company closer than ever to the top of the smartphone market. Over the last year Apple's share of the smartphone market rose from 17 to 20 percent, while Samsung's slipped from 29 to 20 percent according to IDC.
In China Samsung and Apple are tied for the top position in the smartphone market.
In Barcelona, eyes won't just be on Samsung though as HTC, Sony and Huawei are all expected to also debut flagship devices.
