Microsoft is making amazing leaps in hand tracking

IDG News Service | Jun 29, 2016

Microsoft's Handpose project aims to perfect hand tracking technology so gesture recognition tools can be adapted for mainstream use.

Microsoft wants to make you feel

like a JEDI

by controlling your computer

with your HANDS

That’s exactly the idea behind HANDPOSE

Gesture control is not new

but this is much more accurate

The system works by creating a smooth data model of the hand

using data points tracked by Kinect

An algorithm calculates the expected future location of the data points

Which conserves energy and allows for smooth and accurate tracking

The GOAL: a system that can run on a regular consumer gadget

Like this computer

The user simply pinches the photo

drags it over

and opens his hand to drop it into his presentation

HANDPOSE is still a research project…
